Tooth loss can be difficult to live with as it impacts your ability to chew, your oral health, and your appearance. Dental implants offer a long-term solution to tooth loss issues. By learning more about teeth implants, you can decide if it’s a good option for you. At Asuncion Dental Group, we’ve compiled these questions to help educate our Frederick, Maryland patients about this treatment.
Dental implants are artificial teeth used to replace natural teeth when they go missing. They’re composed of a titanium implant screw, an abutment, and an artificial tooth or teeth, depending on your need. The implant screw is embedded into your jawbone surgically where, over the next three to six months, it will fuse with your bone system to become your new tooth root. Once it has healed, Dr. Frederick Asuncion will attach an abutment and your artificial tooth (teeth) to complete your treatment.
Single implants can be used to replace one tooth using a dental crown. Implant bridges can replace multiple missing teeth in a row, and implant-supported dentures can replace all your teeth using the all-on-4 or all-on-6 implant system.
If you have one or more missing teeth, have good oral and overall health, and have sufficient bone density to support implants, you are a viable candidate for this treatment. A thorough evaluation by Dr. Asuncion will determine if it’s the best restorative treatment for you.
Implants look, feel and function like natural teeth due to the implant screw acting like a tooth root. Benefits include:
